I run several Brekeke SIP Servers. All of them are on Linux (CentOS and Ubuntu).
For running SIP Server, I don't need OS's GUI.

Izzyg,

You have asked a very smart question!

My Opinion:

Brekeke is built to run much better on Linux versus Windows. It's alot more technical based Sip Server, and due to the nature of it's protocol.
Works better on a non-GUI based OS.

I've actually installed Brekeke Sip Server on CentOS 5/6 [32bit/64bit] and Puppy Linux 4.3.1 [The REAL Puppy Linux before the deriative distro's]

I also have the ONLY Puppy Linux 431 Install Video Tutorial you can find on YT.

You can visit "The project" @ puppylinux431.com

I've also run Brekeke Sip Server and maintained it on Windows XP / Windows Server 2003 R2 [32bit]

It's GUI is the same build basically once installed. They each have good and bad things. You would have to do alot more manual configurations with Linux, versus a Windows environment which is probably GUI.

To search for call records, it's alot easier to use a linux terminal vs command prompt to review data via cat/grep.

Even troubleshooting, it's easier to figure out a problem in Linux [for me] versus Windows due to the tools you can use like netstat options/etc

I've also seen Ubuntu 10.10 Server used for Brekeke Sip Server which also runs pretty well!

Those are the OS I have tried out and want to say I've had less headaches with Linux.

Thanks,
Kent C.
