6. Your problem: Realtek NIC

Hello,

We have been experiencing something for two years now that we are interested in learning if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

Running the pbx or sip server on a computer that uses the realtek nic chipset 8xxx causes a problem with port forwarding. Being the endless tinkerers that we are, we found a work around but i wonder how many others are having trouble port forwarding with realtek chipset and think it may be Brekeke. To port forward 5060 to a Brekeke behind nat, we have to use 5061 on the router while the Brekeke is set to 5060. This is very strange but we have confirmed it.

Most atom processor computers and many others use the realtek chipset and i am curios how many people may have failed at installation because they didn't try opening a port range wider than called for. Using a TP-Link 480+ we were able to open the range wider to accomdate the problem, but on a cisco rv042 that didn't work and the pbx couldn't register to anything outside the nat.

Looking for feedback from anyone else that may have had the problem. Even updating realtek drivers to May 2012 version didn't help.

Thanks,
ambrosio

Hi we had the same experiences at linux-box.
Also the Realtek chipset caused an audio quality issue.

We moved Brekeke to another box which has Intel chipset.

I see this post also finally came to the same conclusion. Realtek NIC has fragmentation problem.

Hopefully this post will prevent some frustration for people having trouble with their Brekeke behind nat.
