Does G.729 work well on Brekeke.
1. Brekeke Product Name and version: Version 2.4.7.3 , Multi-Tenant
I am interested in using G.729 on my Brekeke PBX. I was wondering if it works well with the system? Is it worth licensing?
Thanks,
-B

There are two legs to the call so make sure you check both legs of the call. From the phone to the pbx is the first leg and from the pbx to the provider is the second leg. If both are showing pcmu then go ahead and make the user codec 18 instead of 18,0. that way the call should fail if it cannot establish g729. Also you could change the codec choices in the options tab of the pbx to g729 18 only to help diagnose your problem. Restart the pbx after making a change to options.
Brekeke has a very good implementation of G729. I have always been a fan of the sound quality of ILBC which the PBX also supports but few hard phones support it. Most softphones do and it sounds great.

Also, don't forget to check Use Remote Preferred Codec because a remote device can insist on pcmu if "use Remote Preferred Codec" set to yes in options tab of pbx and remote phone requesting pcmu.
There are three places codec can be chosen in pbx.
1) user
2) ARS
3) Options tab
Force your phone to use g729 only in your phone's configuration GUI and check results.
Hope this helps.
