Inbound VOIP calls

Post by colin2710 »

Hi there,

Can anyone help - We have three suppliers of inbound VOIP numbers and two of our suppliers work fine with no ARS rules (the calls just come in) but the third supplier (a major one in the UK - Magrathea Telecom) when a call comes in it does not connect to the PBX or anything. After about 30 seconds the call rejects and we get the usual telecoms announcement "I sorry we unable to connect this call".

If I look at the SIP Server Active Sessions while the call comes in I see the following:

Session ID 159
From: sip:213.166.5.133 (213.166.5.129:5060)
To: sip:152@sip1.ourdomain.com (127.0.0.1:15060) 2008-01-07 17:08:36.546 Initializing

The "sip152" is the extension that should ring, but does not. To confirm - our other two suppliers work fine with exactly the same setup - i.e. Nothing in the ARS.

Is user 152 registered in the SIP Server?
What is the SIP client's name?

Inbound VOIP calls

Post by colin2710 »

Hi There,

Is user 152 registered in the SIP Server? - No it's an auto attendant extension in the PBX.

What is the SIP client's name? - sip:213.166.5.133:5060 (sip:gk.magrathea.net:5060)

As I said in my post, both the other providers work fine for incoming calls and since my post I have also got a third Telco's inbound SIP calls to work as well. So basically I am fishing for ideas as to what could be different about Magrathea.

I want to see the INVITE packet which sent from Magrathea.
Can you paste it here?

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply, you asked to see the INVITE packet which was sent from Magrathea. As far as I am aware Brekeke does not log this information - or does it?

The only information I can see is in the "Active Sessions" in the SIP server - this is what it says:

sip:02089112222@213.166.5.132
(213.166.5.130:5060) 152@sip1.ourdomain.com
(127.0.0.1:15060) 2008-01-09 13:14:44.910 Initializing Details

The only thing I thought was that Magrathea must be sending calls to our SIP server in a different way than all the other providers, but on checking with Magrathea - they say they send calls exactly the same way as say Voxbone.

Let me know your thoughts.

Many thanks - Colin

Hi Colin,

If you forward a Magrathea's call to a registered user instead of the pbx by using dialplan, can you receive the call at the user side client?

If you are using a session plug-in or accounting plug-in,, please disable it.

Hi there,

Many many thanks for your reply - I have tried two things (as per your suggestion):

Sent a call to a registered sip phone AND sent a call to a registered user and both calls failed.

I looks as if Brekeke is trying to send the call back to Magrathea as I get a strange ring tone when I call the number.

Session ID: 4055
From: sip:213.166.5.134 (213.166.5.130:5060)
To: sip:55100@sip1.first-web.net (127.0.0.1:15060) 2008-01-10 12:16:23.089 Provisioning Details

Session ID: 4058
From: sip:213.166.5.134:5060 (123.123.123.123:15062)
To: sip:44203XXXXXXX@n.e164.org.uk (213.166.5.130) 2008-01-10 12:16:23.167 Initializing Details

Note: 123.123.123.123 is our IP address of the server and "44203XXXXXXX" is the original Magrathea number dialled.

I only other strange thing is that it shows "n.e164.org.uk", this resolves to and is a domain name of Magrathea. I confirm that there is NO session plug-in or accounting plug-in and NO dial plans or ARS's

I am now stuck and I am just about to throw the whole thing out of the window. This where the Brekeke moderator should step in and help!!!

Any ideas - please, please.

umm..
Do you have any packet capture software (e.g. wireshark)?
Please capture an INVITE packet which came from Magrathea then paste it here.
I can analyze it.

Hi there,

Sorry about not coming back to you sooner, but I was away for a long weekend.

I will look at Wireshark over the next 48 hours and see if there is anything there, however in the mean time, I have seen in the "Call logs" when a call comes in from Magrathea "Failure 403".

Does anyone know what this error means?

Thanks guys - does Brekeke staff / moderators ever visit this forum!!! This would not interfere with the paid-for support that Brekeke offer.

Do you have a DialPlan rule for accepting a Magrathea's call?
I think you need to use "$auth=off" in the Depply Patterns.

Hi there,

Have tried both with and without dial plan and "$auth=off". I have tried every permutation under the sun!!!

Wireshark is the next thing to get my head around - where is the documentation about this (with examples) or someone Brekeke support.

We are beginning to wish we had never purchased this software. We are now actively looking at other SIP/PBX software that seems to work out of the box. The Brekeke product is excellent and we are definitely fans but I just don't get the lack of any input from Brekeke.

You have been a star - thank you. I will post the Wireshark trace tomorrow or Wednesday.

Since other provider are working no problem and your problem is related with Magrathea only, I suppose the cause of the problem is Magrathea's INVITE request packet...

Also, I want to say that Brekeke's support is excellent because they are providing cordial supports to business users like me.

Hi there,

Many thanks for that - I enabled the logging as a first step before I look at wireshark - below is from the Brekeke logs - but I don't think this will help.

#1200496057142,1200496057142,,0,<sip:44203051XXXX@m.e164.org.uk>,"anonymous" <sip:213.166.5.133>,1200496057142,0,0
#1200496059533,1200496059533,,0,<sip:44203051XXXX@n.e164.org.uk>,"044208549XXXX" <sip:044208549XXXX@213.166.5.134>,1200496059533,0,0

For your interest "n.e164.org.uk" is also Magrathea!!!

The XXXX in the number represents the last four digits, removed by me for security reasons.

I also saw in the "Active Sessions" Provisioning & then an Invite, but still nothing happens.

I don't think, even if I spend a lot of time with wireshark that I am going to solve this, as it taking up to much of my time.

Thanks again - let me know what you think.

---
[Matching Pattern]
$request = ^INVITE
$addr = 213.166.5.130

[Deploy Pattern]
$auth = off
$target = SIP_CLIENT_IP_ADDRESS
---

What would happen?

Hi there,

Thanks for that, but I tried it and seems to make no difference. I had tried something very similar, but mine had "To=%1" in it as well.

I suppose the only option is to try and get webshark up and running, but I will NOT be spending too much time with it, as the other SIP server software we have, just works. With great reluctance, we may have to run two SIP servers or just dump Brekeke and right off the time (more important) and money we spent on the software - *time is money*.

It's great shame as the underling Brekeke software is very good and the Auto Attendant works very well - but it's what I said earlier - there is no good documentation with examples on ARS or Dial Plans and NO support from Brekeke. If Brekeke see this post - we were looking at buying a much bigger licence later in the year - 80 or 100 users!!!

I will try and find time over the weekend to do battle with webshark and will post a message on Sunday or Monday, letting you know how I got on or NOT.

My friend (lakeview) you have been great - many thanks again.

Hi there,

Many thanks - but it now gives engaged!!!

I am stuck - I don't know what to do. If I can't get a simple thing like this to work, how can we put this in to production (make it live).

Magrathea Telecom is one of the largest providers of VOIP inbound telephone numbers in the UK, so we need to able to get calls from them.

I will have to use our other SIP/PBX for them. Not good new for us.

Thanks again for your help, you have been great.

I was waiting for your post including a captured packet here..
It will be a good clue for solving your problem.

In your case, other providers are no problem with Brekeke therefore the problem is related with Magrathea.
